Today is Memorial Day, Observed. May 31 is the “Real” Memorial Day.
“I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth more than all the means….” –John Adams
This is the day “set aside to honor our fallen Patriots — generations of American Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coastguardsmen — who served their country with honor from 1776 to this day. It is a day that many of our Patriot readers, and every member of The Federalist Patriot staff, observe in solemn reverence.” Mark Alexander
God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it. –Daniel Webster
On every patriotic holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Veterans Day through Thanksgiving Day) the little town up the road from us puts out Red, White and Blue bunting all over the lamp-posts and telephone posts as well as little white crosses with the names of soldiers from that little town that have died in service to our country along the road ways inside their city limits. Gives me a lump in my throat every time I drive through.
“Others speak far more eloquently than I this day, so I simply say to you:
“If you see someone in uniform, or know they serve, thank them.
“If you see someone you know has served, thank them.
“Remember those who paid the ultimate price so that you are free to celebrate this day as you see fit; that paid that price such tyranny has been halted many times large and small; and, that gave unto each of us that greater love such that one laid down their life for another. Take a moment, if possible make it a special moment with family and friends, and simply remember them.
“Remember them with thanks, with love, with joy, and celebration, for they would want it that way.”BlackFive
“This country has paid a terrible price for our freedom and if you visit any military cemetery and consider that every name on every tombstone is a father, mother, son or daughter who left home and family and gave their life for the country they love, it comes home to you just how terrible that price was.
“Every citizen of this nation owes an unpayable debt of gratitude to every man and women who has ever worn the uniform whether in wartime or peacetime. They deserve our support, our prayers and our allegiance.”Charlie Daniels
Thank goodness there are so many other people who are more eloquent than I and can say the things that I am just too page-bound to say!
