The politicos are screaming at each other about the newest health care proposal by Hilary Clinton. It would mimic the systems in Great Britain and Canada – which systems are failing. We seldom hear of alternatives, however.
As someone who is on the brink of Medicare and Social Security (Social Insecurity?), I am vitally interested in all aspects of the question. Even on a rock overlooking the Pond, this turtle is aware of problems and proposed solutions!
Dr. David Gratzer, a psychiatrist who is intimately familiar with both t he American and Canadian health care systems, has proposed an alternative answer to the health care dilemmas facing us in the US. It involves the capitalistic system which the US has developed so successfully in other aspects of business. The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care presents his analysis of the problems and solutions to those problems which do not involve government interference. Dr. Gratzer believes that “the crisis in American health care stems largely from its addiction to outmoded and discredited economic ideas.”
In The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care, he offers a detailed overview of American health care, from economics and politics to medical science. He explains how it is possible to reduce health expenses, insure millions more, and improve quality of health care while not growing government or raising taxes.
While he may not have the final answer, I believe it is important that we explore all possible aspects of the problems currently facing the health care system in order to select the work toward the best solutions for us – not for any other country.
