I received this in an e-mail here at Turtle Rock. I enjoy receiving both funny and thought-provoking items in my e-mail box. This one deserves wide circulation, so here it is.

Here at Turtle Rock, I often am enjoying basking so much I don’t start work as soon as I should – then I end up being in a very big hurry and stressed with it.
The Orthodox Church Fathers call procrastination Sloth, Negligence, and Laziness, spiritual afflictions that affect our perception of and relationship to God. [...]

I’ve been watching the Michael Vick situation from my rock at the Pond. Being Orthodox gives me a slightly different perspective on it.
God gave man dominion over the world. See The Ol’ Curmudgeon’s Rumbling on this topic. It is my opinion that too many people do not “husband” their pets or other animals they own. [...]

We were watching Cats the other day. Love that musical. I think it’s the “perfect” stage musical. The Ol’ Curmudgeon likes it, but prefers Chicago over it. Variety is what makes life go ’round!
But I got to thinking – back when Cats first came out, all of a sudden all the young girls would choose [...]

Since I married him, the Ol’ Curmudgeon has occasionally pulled a surprise on me. Life with him has never been dull! The Pond, with him, is marvelous!
So I shouldn’t have been so shocked when he looked up from some cook books he was perusing and announced that when he retired, if we could afford it, [...]

The sun sets late during the summer here at the Pond. The heat, humidity, occasional storms and frequently constant sunshine have made the grass grow high.
The Ol’ Curmudgeon gave up trying to find someone to mow our grass for a “reasonable” fee, so he invested in a new, electric mower. He was out there at [...]

Here at the pond, we sometimes play silly games. This is one I really enjoy. There are multiple variations floating around. This is the most recent one I’ve encountered.
Suzanne tagged me with it.
I’m tagging Meg, Denise, Andreas, and Risa on this one.
A. Four jobs I’ve had in my life
1. Keypunch Operator
2. Typist
3. [...]

Death at the Pond -

Death comes to everyone on this earth. Even Christ died on the Cross. He triumphed over death, thereby assuring us of the possibility of everlasting life.
But, still, death comes to everyone.
Here at the pond, we are always aware of death. Not only because we are of the age at which we should be considering it, [...]
Without Arousing Passions –
Posted in Orthodox Christian, Religion, Spiritual, The Passions on 1 August 07 | Leave a Comment »
Much of the entertainment in and around the pond can arouse great “feelings” in one. The Church Fathers refer to these feelings as The Passions. They distract us from our true task – Theosis – becoming one with God.
But I thought I had found an “entertainment” that does not arouse my passions – nor [...]
